About the Institution |

| Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 31 Chandigarh was established in 1974 under the patronage of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan, New Delhi an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Like all Kendriya Vidyalayas, KV Sector 31 too adheres to four fold Principles: |

| * To cater to the education needs of the children of transferable Central Government employees, including Defence and Paramilitary personnel, by, providing common programme of education in co ordination with Kendriva Vidyalayas all over India and abroad. |

* To initiate and promote experiments and innovation in education in collaboration with other bodies like CBSE and NCERT etc. |

| The school aims to impart education to its young minds in such a manner that they acquire a modern outlook and at the same time also have their roots firmly embedded in the Indian heritage. It trains its students in such a way that they are not just equipped to earn a living but also have acumen for shouldering national and global responsibilities. |

- 01 student selected for SGFI in Cricket U-19 in 2009.
- 12 students awarded Tritya Sopan of Bharat Scouts and Guides at KV-1, Chandimandir in 2009.
- 01 Primary Teacher of the school has been awarded National Award on 5 September 2009.
- 01 student secured First Position in KVS, Chandigarh Region in KVS Junior Mathematics Olympiad 2009.
- 01 student participated in SGFI in Tennis in 2008-09.
- 02 students awarded Rajya Puruskar in 2008-09.
- 01 student of class X and 01 student of class XII received CBSE Merit Certificate in 2008.
- 01 Primary Teacher received KVS Incentive Award in 2007.
- Our School was awarded “Certificate of Excellence” by the Commissioner, KVS (HQ) New Delhi for having 5% or more students of the Vidyalaya securing 90% or above / 40% or more students securing 75% or above AISSE-2007 (Class X).

| The vidyalaya started in temporary building in 3-BRD campus of Air Force Station Chandigarh in 1974 and shifted to the present building during 1979-80. |

- Subjects offered in 10 + 2 (Science Stream) - Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Bio-Tech, Comp Sc, Hindi and English.
- Subjects offered in 10 + 2 (Commerce Stream) - B. Studies, Accountancy, Maths, Economics, Hindi and English.
- Subjects offered in 10 + 2 (Humanities Stream) – Geography, Economics, History, Hindi and English
- Bio Technology started as an elective subject in Science stream from session 2006-07.
- Computer Science introduced as elective subject in Science stream in 2007-08.

Technologically aided teaching learning in the School's Resource Room is a daily routine. The Room is well equipped with Overhead Projector, a Computer Set, and LCD Projector.
The School's Library houses a rich collection of nearly 17,000 books. Latest Periodicals related to the almost every project taught in the school are available in the library.
The School building is well built with spacious class rooms, three fully equipped Science labs viz. Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Junior Science lab, Computer Labs, Drawing, Music, Geography, Games, Sports and Work Experience (SUPW) rooms.
There are playgrounds with courts/ fields for Kho-Kho, Volley Ball, Hand ball, Football, Basket Ball.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector-31, also has an Satellite Interactive Terminal (SIT) of Educational Satellite (EDUSAT), linked with NCERT, New Delhi. |
